http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2iZzbyQp0g – Jesse Tinsley performing Holei. This really touched me deep down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg7JyJCOjXI – Here he is doing He Wahine U`i. Swell!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPAD_OCv67Y – A beautiful instrumental version of Ku`u Lei Awapuhi. The guitar player is from Japan and he does honor to the mele. Very, very nice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTS6ARUCSNE – This is billed as a 1920’s recording of Hawaiian hula music. It is a song about a hapa-haole girl and I have no idea who the singer is. I would be interested in knowing if anyone recognizes who it is.

Jesse,

I particularly liked your videos, as usual. I'll bet a million bucks that there'll be a bunch of Na Hoku Hanohano Awards coming your way as soon as that CD comes out!

Oh wait, no. They'd have to be HMA's, yeah?

He kehau ho'oma'ema'e ke aloha.

Mahalo, Alika! But since I don't compose, arrange or record, I don't think I'll be up for any awards! I DO, however, play for fun!

At first I thought it was Kalama's Quartet...or Sol Ho`opi`i. But upon listening to CDs which include their versions, it's neither of them.

I'm betting Ferera & Franchini from the CD "On the Beach at Waikiki: 1914-1952". I loaned my copy to someone...can't remember who...sigh...

I don't know the singer or group, but the song is "Hapa Haole Hula Girl" without a doubt. My favorite version is the one by Paul Shimomoto.

Thanks Wanda and Duke. I am glad you enjoy them. I'll consider recording a CD. It's hard enough to record three verses of a song without making big mistakes. Everyone one of my Youtubes has a language mistake, and I don't want to pass those on in a recording. I think Duke and Jay have created a truly amazing online archive of slack key classics that is a good resource for slackers everywhere.
