Congratulations to all the potential nominees. Where is Hoku Zuttermeister? You would think that the most decorated album from this years Na Hoku Hanohano awards would at least make it to the preliminary list. Does anybody know who is on the selection committee. |

Every year when this list of entries is released, it seems there will always be these questions:
1. Why is (fill in the blank) on this list??? 2. Why isn't (fill in the blank) on this list??
And no one at NARAS will 'fess up as to who is on the selection committee -- although it has been confirmed that no one from the island music industry is a participant.
That could help answer questions #1 and #2...sigh.... |

Hoku's album was on the preliminary list last year, and did not receive enough votes to get nominated. |

One of the issues regarding "Why isn't ___ on the list when they won Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards this year?" is the fact that the NARAS and HARA eligibility time frames are not aligned - HARA uses the calendar year and NARAS from Oct 1 - Sept 30. So there will always be some winners from the current year's Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards which appeared on the previous year's Grammy ballot and others on the current year's ballot. It is confusing. I brought up the idea of trying to have the Nā Hōkū Awards move to the same calendar, but there are valid business reasons why we use the Jan-Dec calendar.
Regarding why Hōkū and many other artists who deserve to be on the final ballot have never made it… I'm biting my tongue. |

That tongue-biting is needed so often, aren't you overdue for a transfusion?? |

The entries on this list had to have been released between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008. |

Nat's CD comes out next week (11/4) - too late for the 2009 Grammys, but she'll be eligible for the 2009 Na Hokus... and the 2010 Grammys! |
