I recently discovered this link and thought that the Taropatch audience might be interested. Think this is the best elementary course in 'olelo hawaii I have ever seen. It seems generous to me that Kamehameha Schools should provide this material in their effort to perpetuate the language. The kumu is Ekela Kaniaupio-Crozier who is absolutely lovely. The video can be retrieved in both low and high bandwidth. You can also print 54 pages of writen material in acrobat format. I think it's wonderful, so maybe some will have the time to check 'em out. I think this could have a definite impact on playing and interpretation, cause slack key is Hawaiian no?!!
So, ...... badda bing: http://ksdl.ksbe.edu/overview/what_is_DL.html
Oh, while I'm at it I want to plug Internet Radio Hawaii. Rabb is da man deah, posted the above link and works hard at his radio station .. so mahalo Rabb. No advertisments ..... listener supported ... live from Kailua. Weathy slackers can give him lots of money to keep his station humming along. http://www.hotspotshawaii.com/irhpages/irhlive.html
Oh see ...... now I getting myself in a jam, and I am in the mood to plug people. Well, if anyone is in the mood to purchase the most wonderful ipu I have see, I recently purchased one for a gift after looking long and hard. Anne at Gourd Connection created a beautiful one with an awesome sound, and she's filled with aloha too. She will stain them to suit you, or finish in kukui nut oil, any kine oil, and has varnish selections also. She also sells intructional material. What initially caused me to choose her ... a close friend's daughter had ordered one ipu which arrived damaged in the mail. Anne replaced immediately, actually sending a larger ipu heke instead of the damaged ipu. No charge .. Ho aloha. So even if you're not into hula, the ipu is a nice decoration. Sorry Andy, but I'm going to plug this lady too. But it's sort of related .. musical instruments. http://www.thegourdconnection.com/
K pau plugs. Aloha!

Thanks for the links. The Kamehameha School's distance learning looks really interesting. Didn't realize until I took a look but IT'S FREE!
The direct link is http://ksdl.ksbe.edu/kulaiwi/index.html.
12 lessons (video and audio) for dial-up or high-bandwidth connections and 46 pages of text!!! I'm having a hard time getting over it.

No problem Angus ...... keeding you.
And thanks for posting the improved targeted link. I have struggled with various textbooks and Na Kai 'Ewalu from UH Hilo, but this ties it all together so well. I think the reason why this works is that it's born out of the immersion programs working so well with the children. This can help get parents and propective students up to speed, or at least off to a good start. It's amazing! |
