I cannot wait until Sunday to post this. This is one of the most spectacular story telling, singing, dancing, etc., etc., etc. I still have chicken skin and I watched it 3 or 4 times already. Ho, man. What talent! And what a great way of telling the story.
I loved at the end when the audience clapped.
Chicken skin, fo realz.

Now does anyone know when Iz did Opae E, he said something in Hawaiian which I cannot understand, he says so fast and my brain is so slow. What did he say?

Auntie Maria: It is on the Man and his Music Live album. When he is talking story about what the song means, he makes some joke, but it is in Hawaiian and he says it so fast that I cannot tell what he is saying. It is not part of the lyrics.
And yes, wasn't that performance by Uluwehi's halau spectacular? I really enjoyed it, and I am glad you did, as well. I just loved seeing the little ones come out at the end to play the part of the opihi. If can, can! |

Wow! Oh so nani!
Hang on a sec, Wanda, let me go put da CD in to see if I can help you.
*goes to her room*
*three minutes later*
Do you mean when he says, "At least das my kine terminology of da song?" Das Pigeon, not Hawaiian.
Or was it the part where he said, "Mai, mai, mai, mai, mai" for the hula dancers? "Mai" means "come." |
He kehau ho'oma'ema'e ke aloha.

Thanks so much Wanda that is a favorite for me also and brings back wonderful memories of Music Camp Sonny Lim did the song and told the story with such feeling and humor It also gives me the misty eye chicken skin moment every time I hear it no matter who sings it. And seeing it preformed will now add to my mental image of the story. Mahalo |

`Alika - I am not certain that what you heard is what I heard. I thought I heard him say something about "kanaka". |

I think he's like, "At least das my kanaka terminology of da song." Don't really know what the "kanaka" has to do with it... |
