Looks like Fender is jumping on the uke bandwagon with 2 laminated models and 1 solid (mahogany) model, all tenors, all with the iconic Fender headstock:

My favorite quote from various blog comments on the pending (1/19) release:

"Fender makes some of the world’s best electric, acoustic and bass guitars. In 2009 they’re releasing what is sure to be some of the world’s best ukuleles!"

The best ukuleles available at Guitar Center, anyway!

Love that Tele headstock!

You'd think they'd make Strat & Tele shaped thinlines.

I've got a K-Wave Tele-style http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/KWVI-VW.htm.

I love my Tele uke, but I'd love it even more if it were the real deal.

Or, to totally get my attention, how about a Hello Kitty Stratocaster Ukulele? http://www.fenderhellokitty.com/

Where's Leo now that we need him??

Leo sold Fender a good many years ago, when he thought his health problems were terminal. After he recovered, he co-founded J&L Guitars with George Fullerton, and made some very nice instruments, mostly electrics. Alas, age finally caught up and Leo passed on several years ago. More's the pity.

They will be $200 to $400 bucks USD, Javeiro. Prices and specs are on:

They appear to be modified Kala's. Roy Goode from Giacoletti Music in Carlsbad, California ( http://www.carlsbadmusic.com ) said he will find out at the NAMM show. Ric

I saw the Hello Kitty Tele when I was in Kenelly Keys in Seattle buying strings - it definitely is a low end model Fender. The perfect gift for someone who has too many guitars.

I wish Fender had a Hello Kitty Tele---that I could justify buying (sorta). But it's a Squire Strat with a single humbucker. Not a bad little axe, actually. Cute as hell.

I have a good work-horse Strat, but I sold the Tele in a fit of stupidity many years ago.

Hey Slip... ya wanna come down to Hood River for the uke fest?

Well, I wasn't looking that closely -the bright pink body must have phased me. When's the Hood River Uke Fest? I jave a friend, Ben Bonham, there who's a great classic Hawaiina steeler.

I was always a fan of the original (now-discontinued) Daisy guitar design:

I mean, how can you look at that guitar (which also came in other colors) and not think happy thoughts?!

Most likely, Mark. (Same set as in Eugene?) I just need to get back home to see what's waiting for me there. I'll be in touch. - Jack
