Remember - "The Muppet Show" was filmed in the UK, not the US. Lord Lew Grade's company took it on, when Jim Henson was rejected by American networks for being too closely associated with "Sesame Street." Henson later paid tribute to Lord Grade in "The Muppet Movie," with Orson Welles as "Lew Lord."
Indeed it was. And a very important part of my childhood it was too. I never thought of it as anything other than American, though. Most of the guests were American. I remember seeing John Cleese on it once and thinking it sounded weird to hear him amongst the American accents.
Every drummer I've met of my generation was inspired to take up the drums because of Animal, the Muppet drummer!
