After coming back from Oahu and jamming with Duke, Jay, the Abrigo Ohana, Doug Fitch, Peter Medeiros and a few "others", my worktime meditation today consisted of the realization of just how important sharing music and joy is. TV can be of some benefit, movies too, and even listening to CDs, but the real thing should be prized.

Tell me about it, braddah Kory. Due to my remote location out here in da desert region of Daboonies, WA, I only get to kanikapila once every 6 months. So count your blessings and try to appreciate just how really spoiled rotten you Seattle folks really are.

For guitarded and others in the Washington, Idaho, Montana area, folks in Spokane are organizing the first Spokane Mauka Bash, with a full day of music and food March 21, 2009. Hope everyone in the region can make it.

Before the advent of radio and, especially, TV, peoeple used to play music with family and/or friends in their homes or in halls like the Grange. TV changed us into couch potatoes and mere observers. What a shame!

Eh Braddah Ed - that looks like where da mountain meets da road. Reminds me of Big Island where da lava go ontop da road. Oni ting, the snow gonna melt. When get good weather, then you could go, yeah? At least maybe occasionally. Shootz call Paul on da hello-phone and he put you on da speakah phone and can jam via Ma Bell.

Or call Jay or Dukie.

One thing that has so aptly been pointed out, is that you actively need to search out opportunities to make music instead of waiting for them to fall into your lap. That is why we drive 6 hours to Washington DC for a bit of music and a tiny tail gate kani iin the parking lot. I know we could not afford to do that very often but once a year is better than zero times a year.

Me ke aloha
Malama pono,

And we missed you at KK last night, Kory - but we heard that you had some catching up to do.

March 21 - unfortunately, that's the date that I have a bunch of the Seattle kanikapila folks tied up for a gig.

Hey Seattle-ites-- Keep Mach 29th open (or head for the hills, yer choice.)

I'll be back at Rusty Springs for two more days of workshops that weekend.

I'll start stockpiling the tums for the traditional saturday lunch at the Yak Yak and the uber-traditional spam 'n' jam at the Kona Kitchen.

And, in response to Kory's musings: a bad jam is better than good television. As if there were such a thing. Even if the music isn't stellar, it's real. Which means it is there only in the moment. Ain't that just magic?

The spam, however, tends to stick around for a while...

If I head for the hills at "Mach" 29 - - - I'll barely have time to wave at Jesse, much less play music with him.

But that date on our calendar now has your name linked to it, Mark. Looking forward to it!

I agree with you 100%. Listeners enjoy and have a big part in what music is about to, but I feel so blessed to be able to actually make it. Mahalo ke Akua...

Hey - wanna stay Chez Slip when you come?

Cheryl Wheeler & Kenny White are playing at Phinney that Saturday night - Momi & I are going; you two want to come as well? They are hilariously good musicians.
