Regarding a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for slack key -- starting this year, this is an official category, with voting now to be done by qualified members of the Hawai`i Academy of Recording Arts.

...for this year (not sure how much longer given the new category), the Ki ho`alu foundation will still recognize a performer and present their own award, but yes, there's an official Slack Key award this year and an instrumental one.
