My two cents: The public can vote in the "favorite entertainer" category of the Na Hokuhanohano awards for Hawaiian Music. Ledward Kaapana is a living treasure of Hawaiian culture as a preeminent master of traditional kiho'alu, Hawaiian slack key guitar. His music is a legacy from his family rooted in the traditions of the Kalapana area of the Big Island. I feel its important to recognize those artists who perpetuate vanishing arts forms. While Led carries the flame of this beautiful and unique musical style, he also infuses his performances with his own rascally, fun-loving personality.
I'm lucky to begin a one-on-one apprenticeship with Led starting tomorrow. So, mahalo to Led, the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts for supporting this apprenticeship and for this great opportunity.
