Just for interest, myself and my partner Alison (some of you have met us at the Aloha camps) are attending a ukulele festival in London, where we’re attempting the world record for the number of ukuleles being played at once! Not just us, obviously – the idea is that lots of people turn up.
Now ukuleles have become massively popular over the last few years in the UK, but in a sort of ‘underground’ or ‘alternative’ way. As a result, most of our ukulele players are 1) Certainly not household names and 2) Eccentric. Lots of my fellow countrymen are more than usually eccentric, and I think they’ll be well represented.
Regrettably, Hawaiian music is almost unknown these days, and no Hawaiians live in the UK, so we’ll be under represented in that area.
Here’s the link, anyway, as I say for interest. And I’ll let you know how the world record attempt goes! http://www.londonukefestival.com/
