Admin,
Many thanks to you and Dennis Quade for the alt tuning chord finder applet. I just noticed it's now downloadable, so I did.
There is a similar chord/scale finder on the net that I had been using, but it took forever to load and it wouldn't print. After downloading, this one loads fast and it prints, too. I don't have to sit at my PC to play, hooray.
Thanks again,
Pauline

Hi,
Where can I find this applet? I'm new to the board, but I'd love to start learning where to find chords in the alternate tunings

Welcome to the board Chris.
The tuning applet can be found at http://www.taropatch.net/tuning_applet.htm
I'm glad people are finding it helpful. You may either use it online or download a copy to your PC (sorry it does not work on Macs.)

Hi, all. I just found the applet, and isn’t it cool? But, hey, Andy, don’t you think you should take the “standard tuning” option off the thing?!? (grin).
Someone told me that Keola brags that none of his guitars have ever been in standard tuning.
OK, now some help with how to use it. I figured out how to change strings, and set tunings (that is SO cool) but when I tried to look up chords, either I don’t know how to read it, or I need to grow some extra fingers.
A little help here?

Hi Deborah,
Here's what I do with it. First I hi-lite a Common Tuning, like Taro Patch, aka Open G.
For the buttons under Display, pick Notes; under Show, pick Chords.
Under Key, hi-lite a letter or letter sharp combo. Let's pick D as an example.
Under Chord, hi-lite Dominant 7th for D7 (I had to look that name up with Google's help; too many 7ths in the list, what to chose? Chose "dominant".)
Under Include Notes, D, F#, A, and C are hi-lited. That means you have to play all 4 to get the D7 chord.
On the diagram of the fretboard, the frets for these notes are marked in red. Fret zero is an open string. Pick at least one of each letter that you can comfortably finger. For instance, 024210 or 057777 or 050777 all have the required notes and no outside notes. I don't have my guitar handy to test if they are comfortable or pleasing sounding. There, we've just figured out a chord voicing for D7.
If you download the applet, you can print the fretboard and the frets to use. Maybe circle the combination you prefer for D7.
Someone else can tell us the 'standard' voicings, I hope.
If you scroll down on the page, there are some instructions. With them, plus what I said, plus what others will say we'll come up with a complete set, huh?
Pauline
P.S. - I just saw this is your first post. Welcome to the forum!
