What a beautiful song. If you haven't heard it, I recommend it. Does anyone have a clue as to how I might learn that song?

Slow down! It's Molokai.

It is indeed a beautiful song. According to the liner notes on the album ("Slack Key Guitar - The Artistry of Sonny Lim"), he does it in Taro Patch detuned 1/2 step to F#. My suggestion (with the twin disclaimers that I'm not very good at this kind of thing myself and I haven't actually tried it for this song) is to find the notes for the melody, figure out the bass line, and find the notes to fill out the middle, figuring that for the most part it's probably going to involve the G, C and D chord shapes of TP.

Good luck. BTW, in case you don't have it, the album should be available from Palm Records of Kamuela, HI. Plenty of other good songs on there, too!

The song sounds more difficult than it actually is. The beauty comes from the emotion that it is played, rather than from the actual shape of the notes.

Some of the complexity comes from timing. Much of it is played on the 1st and 3rd strings that you use in Taro Patch. You will have a little bass work that is non-standard, as well as a small part that involves a slide on the 2nd string.

But for the most part, with some patience you can play this beautiful song. It is a nice one to add to your collection.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I think it was the F# that was throwing me! I will work on this.

Slow down! It's Molokai.
