New England was again fortunate to have Jake Shimabukuro summertime and the Makaha Sons, autumn. MSons played venue different fm prior: BlueOceanMusicHall, Salisbury, MA. Performance differed fm prior, also and not all for the better. The no-intermission format resulted in less music. Song list was pretty standard. Energy level, again, demonstrated that the group needs better scheduling to recover fm jet lag before performing. The contemporary male hula of John's son, Shadow, was powerful and refreshingly beautiful. Jerome's commentary, including invitation to female audience to throw money, deteriorated the hula and the evening. Moon looked a bit embarassed by the bit. They're still great but need to reduce Jerome's shilling of c.d.'s fm the stage and drop the money-throwing completely, even when playing a benefit. The art of hula deserves better.
