We have two guests this week on Pakele Live! with Tony SolisNatalie Ai Kamauu (in the 7:30pm hour), and Puʻuloa (in the 6:30pm hour).

The members of Puʻuloa – (Brandon Serrano, Andrew Purdy and Christian Legaspi) have been performing Hawaiian music together for 15 years – since intermediate school. Formerly known as Na Kani, they began performing professionally right out of high school and played all over Oʻahu. They play traditional Hawaiian mele, as well as a bit of contemporary music.

As the members of Puʻuloa have matured, they’ve become increasingly serious about their music. They continue to play regularly, the group is working toward recording an album, Brandon has been studying voice with the legendary vocal coach Neva Rego (known as the “Voice Coach to the Stars, whose students include Robert Cazimero, John Koko, Jimmy Borges, Les Ceballos and many more), and he has been studying guitar with Roland Cazimero.

A former Miss Aloha Hula and multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner, Natalie Ai Kamauu is best known for her powerful yet angelic voice – although she is also a talented songwriter, having written half the songs on her “’I” album. Her extraordinary talent and down-to-earth, thoughtful, and loving nature shine very brightly through her music, as they are an integral part of who she is.

No stranger to the Pakele Live! stage, Natalie began attracting attention when she was just a teenager, singing alongside her father, Howard Ai, for Halau Hula Olana – but it wasn’t long before she began stealing the show. She released her first album, “ʻĒ” (“extraordinary”), in 2005 and promptly won Female Vocalist of the Year honors for her effort. Her second album, “ʻĪ” (“the supreme; best”) was released in 2008 and earned another award for Female Vocalist of the Year. She recently completed work on her third album, “ʻĀ” (to be released in November), and is currently working on her 4th CD – in Japan, with a full orchestra.

Please join host Tony Solis as we welcome Natalie and Puʻuloa to the Pakele Live! stage on Thursday, October 13 from 6:30-8:30p.m. HST at the Willows Restaurant (901 Hausten St., Honolulu). Those who are unable to attend can watch the live stream at www.pakelelive.com. (The show will also be edited for television and shown at a later date on OC16 TV and www.oc16.tv)

Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Doors open at 5:30.)
