Some of you know the story of Julia Nunes, a singer/songwriter/`ukulele player from NY state; she's been quite a phenom on YouTube, and has become a darling of the `ukulele community.
Last June, she launched a Kickstarter page for her fourth album, "Settle Down." Her goal was $15,000, but in fewer than 24 hours, she had already received over $19,000 in donations. By the conclusion of the campaign, the project had $77,888 in donations, making it the third most-funded music project in Kickstarter's history - and meaning she could do a much more complex and elaborate album than she had originally planned, as well as hiring a publicist, getting better promotion, licensing, videos, etc.
The album came out this week, and it's a sweet-sounding project (and a much better disc than Mr. Vedder's recent project, IMO); the booklet's liner notes consist entirely of a list of all the people who contributed to the Kickstarter effort.
So if you like to hear what pop music featuring `ukulele can be (all original compositions), look into it.
