If you have been following this season’s American Idol (admit it, some of you do watch it), Bay Area Hawaiian musician and hula dancer DeAndre “Kamele” Brackensick made it to the Top 13 last week and will be performing on tomorrow night’s show (Wednesday, March 7, Fox network).
I have met Kamele, and he is a very talented, humble and respectful young man, and he’s only 17 years old! Although he hasn’t been singing any Hawaiian songs on AI, here are a couple of YouTubes of him singing with Na Palapalai in Nov. 2010, when he was about 16 years old: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWNG7lYmG44 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8fEGL7vee4 .
Below is a short bio that a friend put together. Check him out tomorrow night.
Aloha, Doug

DeAndre “Kamele” Branckensick is a 17-year old senior from Oak Grove High School in San Jose, California. He is an aspiring singer who sings traditional Hawaiian music, pop songs and who has a nice use of his falsetto.
DeAndre has passion for hula and has participated in hula competition since the age of 10, starting with the 2005 George Na'ope Kane Hula Festival (the first ever "Kane Only" hula competition), Modesto, CA, walking away with the first place trophy for the Auana (modern Hula) Division. http://www.kanehulafestival.com . He has also participated in the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, Hilo, Hawaii under the direction of Kumu Hula Kapua Dalire-Moe. His most current win was first place in the Kane Solo Division at the 2010 Ia Oe E Ka La Hula competition, Pleasanton, CA. http://www.kumuhulaassociation.com/hula_festival.html .
He is definitely in touch with the Hawaiian heritage. You can watch his videos crooning to island songs. Although, he was not able to make it in the top 10 on America Idol last week, the judges brought him back as a wildcard, and they believe that he has the potential as an entertainer/singer in the industry. DeAndre needs your support in order to be the next American Idol.
So, call or vote continuously online for a couple of hours after the show. Watch the program at 8:00 pm (Pacific Time) on Wednesday, March 7 on Fox.
