This week we welcome Jaymie Lei (Lei Melket) to the Pakele Live! with Tony Solis stage!

Formerly one half of the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning duo Keahiwai (with Mailani Makainai), Jaymie Lei has now branched out to solo performances.

Jaymie Lei grew up in central O'ahu and from a very young age - thanks to the “eclectic” musical tastes of her parents - was exposed to many different genres of music. But she never dreamed of establishing a musical career of her own...

Taking 'ukulele lessons from Roy Sakuma as an elementary school student was the first step in her musical career. Being self- taught in guitar in her early high school years was the next. "Since I can't read music, I had to learn by ear or by reading chord charts." And finally, singing alongside friend & classmate Mailani Makainai sealed the deal. "I think it was a combination of things that made Keahiwai a success - teamwork, timing and fate," says Jaymie Lei.

A 2004 graduate of the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa with a B.A. in Hawaiian Language, when Jaymie Lei is not playing music you'll find her working as a field consultant for the supplemental education program, Kumon North America. "Next to music, education is another passion of mine. I've always wanted to be a teacher, so I couldn't be happier being a part of an organization like this."

Though Keahiwai will always be her first love, the singer-songwriter continues to perform solo and anxiously awaits whatever the future may hold. "I'm just doing what I can to keep my passion for music alive." She can also be found playing bass with friends Jenn Wright and Zaysha Labrador (of Simple Souls) in a trio called Soul Tree Music Factory.

Please join host Tony Solis in welcoming Jaymie Lei to the Pakele Live! stage on Thursday, March 15 from 6:30-8:30pm HST at the Willows Restaurant (901 Hausten St., Honolulu). Those who are unable to attend can watch the live stream at www.pakelelive.com. (The show will also be edited for television and shown at a later date on OC16 TV and www.oc16.tv)

Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Doors open at 5:30.) Guests may choose from the full nightly buffet ($34.95) or an a la carte menu created especially for Pakele Live! (available only during the show), with prices ranging from $6 to $16. Happy hour drink specials are also available. Validated valet parking is $3.
