I recently purchased a K. Yasuma Tiple. Had new steel strings put on and it sounds great! My problem is that it keeps going out of tune after playing one song. (I was aware that this is a problem with Tiples).
Q1: Is there anyway to prevent it from going out of tune so fast? (I don't want to do anything like tightening the screws on the tuning heads for fear of breaking something until I know that it is what should be done).
Q2: Can this problem be cured by replacing the original tuning heads with newer/better tuning heads?
Q3: If the answer to Q2 is "Yes", then any suggestion as to manufacturers of replacement tuning heads for the K. Yasuma Tiple?
Q4: Is it just an inherent problem with Tiples that I should just "live with", and just keep a tuner attached to the head of the Tiple and just expect to tune it after every song?
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

| Steel strings usually take a day to "stretch". I usually re-string one evening and tune the next day. Try that. If not, try adjusting the tuners, the gears might be a bit loose. Hope this helps. |

| BTW, congrats on the new tiple! I had an old Martin (T-28, rosewood back & sides, herringbone inlay, 1928). It needed a lot of work, so I had it restrung and sold it to a trad Jazz guy (think: Cats and the Fiddle). After I heard him play it, I knew I had given it a good home. Selling instruments can be emotional (they become extensions of your person), but this was a good thing! |
