This week on Pakele Live! with Tony Solis our guest is Maui’s Merv Oana.

Born and raised in Wailuku, Maui, and a long time entertainer/songwriter, Merv was an original member of Iao Stream Band in the late 1970’s. He embraces different styles of music, from traditional Hawaiian to blues, rock and more, and writes about life in Hawaii.
He released his first album “Everyday Island Life” in 1997, and recently released his 2nd one, entitled Encounters of a Hawaiian Heart. Six of the twelve songs on his latest CD are original compositions. The rest are some of his favorites - both Hawaiian and Contemporary.

In reviewing Encounters of a Hawaiian Heart, John Berger of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser wrote: “...Oana makes a welcome contribution to local music with songs that are entirely his own work. Consider his blues rock ode to a local delicacy (“Sweet Opihi”), his comic Pidgin English salute to an old but reliable car (“My Island Cruza”) and “Clear Blue Waters” with its cheery reggae-beat rhythms and postcard-perfect description of life in Hawaii.”

For his Pakele Live! appearance, Merv will be joined by Duane Feig of Kilohana and Tarvin Makia of Tunana Da Band.

Join host Tony Solis for Pakele Live! Thursday, April 5 from 6:30-8:30pm HST at the Willows Restaurant (901 Hausten St., Honolulu). Those who are unable to attend can watch the live stream at www.pakelelive.com. (The show will also be edited for television and shown at a later date on OC16 TV and www.oc16.tv)

Admission is free and all ages are welcome. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Doors open at 5:30.) Guests may choose from the full nightly buffet ($34.95) or an a la carte menu available only during the show, with prices ranging from $6 to $16. Happy hour drink specials are also available. Validated valet parking is $3.

Note: If you watch online, don’t forget to email the show at pakele @ lava.net and let us know you’re watching! Mention your name and where you’re located - city, state – or country, if outside the U.S.!
