Howdy Dagan! It's been a while since our paths have crossed. You are still up in Waimea, I'm guessing. Have you heard how Bruddah Smitty is doing? I have not heard a peep since the concert in Waimea.

I was gong to mention that Hapuna is not crowded, too, but I figured "crowded" is a relative term. Back when ypochris lived here, there were many beaches that still required 4 wheel drive to get to. He may have been comparing Hapuna to Green Sands or something...

Anyway, good to see you, if only on the internet.

Luckily, there are still quite a number of beaches you can only access with a 4x4, or better, by kayak or on foot.

John Clark's "Beaches of the Big Island" will help you get to all but the most hidden, tiny "pocket" beaches that few know about and none will tell you where are.

Hey there KonaBob, still here in Waimea, things are good. Smitty has been doing better, talked to Sonny recently and he spent some time with him and he was able to pick up his guitar and strum some songs. Continue praying for his recovery. Hopefully I'll run into you one of these days. If you're ever in Waimea on Thursdays stop by the Big Island Brewhaus for some music (bring the steel).

KonaBob,

You're da bomb!

My friend Patti Maxine, (The Queen of Steel, recently inducted into the Swing Hall of Fame), went to the Hawai'i for the first time ever. She had been playing Hawaiian music for around 60 years or so! KonaBob made her visit unforgettable. When I saw her yesterday, I asked if she was back and her reply: "Why does anybody come back???"

I think you made her trip, Bob! Thank you, thank you, I knew you two would get along. Love, hugs, and aloha. I'm next!

Julie

After Duke put up Laupahoehoe Beach Park, I just had to post a few shots of MY Laupahoehoe, thirty miles north, for another taste of what I think the Big Island is all about. This is halfway between Waipi'o and Pololu Valleys, on the northeast flank of Kohala mountain. I've mentioned a time or three we own an ahupua'a there- here is a little bit of the coast.

First, the view from the trail coming into Waimanu Valley:

Looking back towards Waimanu when you first reach the land

Looking towards Pololu and Mokupuka Islet from my usual campsite

Looking back towards the campsite from the old canoe landing

What I'm doing in the flatlands of suburban Florida, I don't know.

Well, I do know- I'm taking care of my daughter, since her mom won't let me bring her to Hawai'i. I think she's afraid that if I have her, there won't be any reason to come back.

Anyway, only a little over two months before we all go to Hawai'i and my daughter finally gets to see where dad is from! Doubt I'll be able to make it out to Laupahoehoe Nui, though. Maybe I can sneak off for a couple of days...

Wow! Just in time for Aloha Music Camp!

Or maybe we can meet up with Dagen in Waima?

So much family, so little time...

Three weeks goes by like a blink of the eye.

A relaxing evening of music in Waimea sounds really good, but even a few hours might be tough. With any luck my wife will want to spend a couple days with her friends, and I can slink off and do my own thing. We'll have to see on that one!

Chris

@ Pops, I play an hour set from 6-7 then it is open mic till around 10 depending on sign ups. List usually fills up by 8 though. Come on by and bring an instrument or use the haus (house) guitar.
