THE HAWAII ACADEMY OF RECORDING ARTS (HARA) ANNOUNCES THE FINAL BALLOT FOR THE 35TH ANNUAL NA HOKU HANOHANO AWARDS, THE CULMINATING EVENT OF MELE MEI 2012
The Na Hoku Hanohano Awards Dinner & Live Broadcast will be held May 27th at the Hawaii Convention Center’s Kalakaua Ballroom. Tickets are now on sale through HARA. Ala Moana Hotel is the Official Hotel of the 35th Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards.

Honolulu, HI – The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts (“HARA”) has announced the Final Ballot Nominees for the 35th Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, per below. There are 27 categories, including Technical and Adjudicated categories, as well as a brand new category, International Album of the Year, with artists from Japan and Korea among the finalists.

Ballots were mailed on schedule, and went out Friday April 13. Voters in Hawai`i should have them already. Outside the islands, watch your mailboxes!
If you are a voting member of HARA and have not received your ballot by Friday April 20, call the HARA office (808-593-9424) or email to info @ nahokuhanohano.org
Ballots must be RECEIVED by the HARA office not later than Friday April 27 -- so get yours in the mail ASAP to ensure that your votes are counted.

I am so excited for both John Keanaaina and for the Abrigo `Ohana, all (both?) of whom were nominated as most promising artist. Woo-hoo!!!!!!!! That goes to show that you don't have to have jillions of dollars behind you. You merely need to make great music, as they did. Woo-hoo! |

I think the prize that most pleased me was Song Of The Year going to "Na Vacqueros" - it's such a lovely work, sung in Hawaiian and Spanish, and it tells the story of the women who accompanied the paniolo in Hawai`i.

I bet anyone who wants a John Keanaaina CD can get one. I am sure you can contact him either through this forum or throuh Face Book. It is a most excellent body of work -- his own original mele with his beautiful ki ho`alu. He is a very fine haku mele.
