Beginning to hear that Aquila will soon make an unwound low G string. Should be available before the end of this year. Personally I like the Aquila nygut strings, but hated the wound low G string because it did not last long.

Should I? Itʻs only $, and where Iʻm going itʻll burn or melt.

Many of the wound low-G strings are wound with aluminum -- way too soft to last for long against frets. One of the guys in our uke group has been buying classical guitar strings, the smallest wound ones that you can get (I think he said 0.030" but not sure). he says that those last a lot longer and are readily accessible.

E Genaro,

I've had the same wound low G on my Po Mahina for years, it's only now starting to show wear...

Aquila low unwound G strings (Red Series Strings.) are available. They are reddish from the way they are made. From the package "...high-tech product made with an elastic Nylgutʻs version added with heavy copper powder to increase specific gravity of the string." Also come in various diameters depending on the ukulele size. Bought some from an eBay seller ($1.99 per string +shipping). Donʻt know if Aquila plans to sell them as part of a set. My ears canʻt tell the difference yet from other unwound low G strings. I have on my ukulele Fremont and Worth which are flurocarbon strings.

Hello,
This is Mimmo pf Aquila strings. The new version of the un wound Red Seies strings held up perfectly, sounds great, and has been extremely stable from a tuning perspective.

I have put up a sound sample, check it out.
