Hey Mark,

You know, you and your lovely wife Annie have made a big difference in the lives of many people. I just want to publicly and loudly thank you for all the years of hard work and organizing, riding herd and all the while, playing music along with us hapless students.

I'm referring, of course, to Aloha Music Camp, starting way back at Kalani Honua on the Big Island, then over to gorgeous, lovely, ancient Moloka'i, and on to Keauhou Resort back on the Big Isle.

I'm sure it wasn't always a buggy ride, what with all those people asking you to do this and that, go here, go there, what about dinner, what are you gonna do tomorrow, etc. etc.

I have so many, many fond memories. I hope you do too, and while history has changed course over the years, noone can ever take those fabulous memories away from us. A million thank you's, and yes, your efforts are very much appreciated by many. Just wanted to let you know that...

Me ke aloha,

Julie

Kalani Honua? Darn, that's, like, two minutes from my father's house. Could have done that one...

Must have been before I joined the lo'i.

Just communicated with him today, in fact. I miss the guy, too - so much talent and teamed with the ability to share it; a rare combination.

I talked with him today, too, mentioning this thread. He is still recovering from the experience and most likley won't look at this, but we can hope he will. Mark is a dear friend, a great musician a fine teacher, and I'm proud to say that I've been his sideman on several occasions.

Oh - Mark will be at the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in early July, as a participant (i.e., a "camper").

Oh gosh,

I hope I'm not embarassing Mark in this post.
I just felt that there needed to be some recognition send out over the ethernet waves.

Cheers!

here in the shires south of Winchester (back east from Hawaii a ways . . .) its a beautiful late spring coming onto summer day, I gotta day off from supporting autistic adults and I'm going down to the sea with Tupelo my tenor uke with the low bass string and Mark Nelson's fingerstyle uke and his slack key uke buke, both dog eared now, as a hapless non musician in 2007 I've developed a pace with a long way to go but at the cornerstone of that development have been these two priceless tutorials.

I can't wait for Mark's country blues ukulele book, I may never meet him but I can sense he's a diamond fellah and when summer gets here for a about a week in some remote village near Carcassonne (that's France, east of Hawaii some), there will be this fellah with his gal lazing in a courtyard playing slack key love songs to each other from Mark Nelson's uke buke and both versions of Eddie Kamae's Morning Dew strung together like the pearls that shine from Mark's fingerstyle uke tome.

I figure from what's said here he's a diamond geezer and like my good friend from Florida once told me "there's only three things important in life, "love, laughter and learning, the rest is jest gravy . . ."

Too hot fer gravy I'm going to the beach . . .

"near Carcassonne (that's France, east of Hawaii some)"

You sure it isn't West?

(I know, I know- going east would be a few miles closer even from the westernmost end of Hawai'i. But only a few...)
