Hey Bay Area and Sacramento Taropatchers, don’t know if you heard about the Kupaoa concerts this week in Sacramento and Oakland, sponsored by the Ho’olupa Hawaiian Culture Foundation. If you're not familiar with Kupaoa, Kellen Paik and Lihau Hannahs are a very talented and entertaining husband and wife duo from Hawaii. The last time they were in the Bay Area, they completely packed The Cue in Concord.
I’m not familiar with the Sacramento venue, but I’ve been to the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, and it’s a very nice and good-sized venue (300+), with lots of parking and restaurants (it’s in Oakland’s Chinatown). Bay Area slack key guitarist Patrick Landeza will also be performing at the Oakland show.
Here’s a brief bio and show/ticket info from Ho’olupa’s website: http://www.hoolupa.org/Kupaoa.html .
Kupaoa is a driving force in contemporary Hawaiian music. With strong backgrounds in both Hawaiian language and hula, their music is rooted in tradition; yet, this young couple are also contributing to the future of Hawaiian music with several original compositions and their own, soulful style that is rich in harmony. Already Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners, you can expect to hear great things from this duo for many years to come!

Go to Live 365 internet radio, http://www.live365.com/index.live , and type in "Hawaiian Music World." Every Wednesday you can hear Dr. Pam's "Ho`olupa Radio" program, where music and education go hand in hand.
Aloha, Doug
