We have two upcoming kanikapilas this month in the San Francisco East Bay, including a special Father’s Day event (see below). Hope to see you at one or both of the kanis.

Aloha,
Doug

(1) Sunday, June 17 is the monthly Concord “Spirit of Aloha” Kanikapila (3rd Sunday of each month):

CUE Productions Live!
1835 Colfax Street
Concord, CA
1:00P-5:00P

This is a special Father’s Day kanikapila/open mic/hula, and it will be featuring Halau Hula Ke Aolani O Kamaile. The halau will be fundraising for their first kupuna competition in Kona this September. They will have hamburger/hot dog plate lunches, drinks and desserts for sale, raffles, a professional makeup artist, and vendors selling Hawaii related items. Both the keiki and kupuna wahine will perform.

This month's kani will be a great time to play, sing or dance for Dad, or let him take the stage and shine. Bring your instruments/songbooks/hula CDs and enjoy island meles, hulas and plenny Aloha! $5.00 donation at the door; mics, music stands, plugins, professional sound system w/ master sound technician included. All ages and levels are welcomed, as well as spectators. Please bring extra copies of songs that you’d like to share that are not in the He Mele Aloha songbook.

Mahalo to Candy Alesna Santos for organizing the kani and Carole Davis at The Cue for graciously offering her place for us to jam in.

(2) Saturday, June 23, is the monthly Alameda Kanikapila (4th Saturday of each month).

Halau Makana
Island Hawaiian Studios
1122 Lincoln Avenue
Alameda, CA 94501
6:00P-9:30P

All ages and levels are welcomed, as well as hula dancers and spectators. Admission is free, and they sell an ono plate lunch dinner (usually $7.00), beverages, and baked goods which help to support the halau.

Bring your instruments, He Mele Aloha songbook, and extra copies of songs that you'd like to share that are not in the Mele book.

Mahalo to Leo Baculpo for organizing the kani and bringing his sound system, and Kumu Hula Lani Cid-Iulio for graciously offering her studio for us to jam in.
