Hi KonaBob!

My heart is with you but my mind and body need to be here at home with my favorite cat, who is dying of cancer.

I am however, keenly looking forward to the updates you started during the last camp. At least I can dream...

(I talked to Geri Valdriz at the Maui Slack Key Festival and tried to squirm into his lap steel guitar case to stow away, but no luck.)

Wish I were there. Truly. Please give my aloha to all those wonderful people making time in their lives to teach, to share, to laugh with each other, to make music under the palm trees. I'll be there in spirit.

Julie

Yes, KonaBob, those daily updates you wrote at last summerʻs camp were WONDERFUL and I was there! Now I am not there, and long to hear of the goings-on of all my favorite Kumu and friends. Please consider writing them again - perhaps to post here on Taropatch and also on Facebook (so we cover EVERYONE). Those of us who do both wonʻt mind the duplication. We just love your cheery voice (both in person and in prose) and your terrific pictures. Please consider it - although I know you are crazy busy with camp administration and kanikapila - your AMC ʻohana so craves the news, so we may enjoy camp vicariously..... xoxoxox Claudia

Exactly what Claudia said!! The highlight of my days for that week last summer were coming home from work to check on the latest from Keauhou. Makes the wait for winter more bearable. Don't worry about fancy; just a few pithy comments and pictures for those of us in withdrawal until our next AMC. Big mahalo for all you do.

Aloha Julie,
There will always be other chances to sit in the shade of tall coconut palms and strum nā'ukulele with friends as the gentle breeze blows off the ocean. But one must have priorities. To remain home and care for our faithful friends as their time comes to an end (as I am doing now as my dearest old cat fades) seems to me more important. I too, will miss June camp for the first time in many, many years, but not staying home was never even an option. Mālama kou aloha extends to those with tails too (Iʻm sure Nona is agreeing). Best wishes, and much aloha to you and yourʻs Julie. And to all June campers-Iʻm with you in heart!
Aloha nō,
Tommy

Hi guys! I can't actually explain why I haven't gotten it together. It is a wonderful camp. I have put a few videos on YouTube, But I seem to be running around taking care of things all day... Last night we had the kumu concert. It opened with a trio: Geri Valdriz on steel, Robyn Kneubuhl on 'ukulele and vocals, and me on my bass. Beautiful mai tai kine' music. Then Melinda Caroll played her new Dennis Lake "Guitalele" with Jeff Cook and Tom Luneberg backing her up on slack key guitars. Tears were shed. Then Kimo Hussey performed both Hawaiian and jazz numbers on solo 'ukulele. The crowd called for more. And finally Jeff Peterson performed original slack key pieces. There was a beautiful Kona Moon in the sky over the hula tent. We wish you all were here!

Today, I saw Kimo and Jeff alone in the lobby with their instruments out - a very good sign.

Julie, my condolences on the medical issues with your dear feline friend. Been there, done that myself.

Without going into all the details of the murderous cancer that attacked my favorite cat, the Tiger King of my heart, Rambo, we set him free from all the ravages of the disease and the pain, yesterday afternoon.

I am absolutely devastated, and grateful for the last few days of his life, which I was able to share with him. Although I missed AMC, I would have not had this special time with my Rambo if I had been at Keahou.

When I was given the opportunity to sign up for AMC, some little voice told me to pass up this opportunity because I would be needed here. I listened to that little voice...

Thanks to all of you who expressed sympathy, it is very much appreciated.

Julie
