Gabby played a single 8 Fender Deluxe (a single neck Stringmaster) in a C6 tuning - from bottom, G C E G A C E G. I've seen it.

IMHO, it really doesn't matter what key the tuning is - G6 (KonaBob), C6 (me and a host of others, D6 (I used to use that), or E6 (Sol Ho'opi'i who called it a C#min7 tuning, Don Helms with Hank Williams, Leon Mac Auliffe and others). It's having the 6 and the 1 note on the 2 & 3rd, or 3rd & 4th, strings that makes the tunings: 1) very useful and 2) Hawaiian sounding.

Geri Valdriz from Maui used an A6th that was 1-5-6-1-3-5 last year at camp, same as my G6th. This summer at camp he had taken the 1 off the bottom and added it to the top: 5-6-1-3-5-1. I asked him why, and he tells me that with the 1 on top, he likes the really high harmonics that he can get. Plus he says that there are some interesting slants between the high 1 and the 3 on the third string. I may have to check this out.
