Starting Tuesday night, October 16, Dave Nye will host the opening of The Los Gatos `Ukulele Club. This monthly event (the third Tuesday of the month) is open to people of all ages, skill levels. It’s all about having fun. Do you want to win friends and annoy everyone else? Play an `Uke!!!!!!!!
PRICE: FREE
MEMBERSHIP: Show up
FORMAT:
1. We will start the meeting with a rousing rendition of C-A-T Popoki Spells a Cat (after all it is Los Gatos – the Cats) 2. 10 to 20 minutes of “Talk Story”. This can be by the guest or topics concerning all things `Ukulele. 3. We play our hearts out until around 8:00. We will always start with easy songs and occasionally add more difficult ones. 4. The last 20 to 30 minutes will be a concert by the Guest Artist or an Open Mic to show off your talents. 5. In the Hawaiian tradition, we will always close the meeting with the mele Hawai`I Aloha.
`UKULELES: If you don’t have one, No pilikia. We have loaners available for your first experience. Keith Holland also has a number of instruments available for sale, should `ukulele be your destiny.
MUSIC: Not strictly Hawaiian. No purchase of music is required, although suggestions of what to buy to further your musical experience will be offered. All music will be provided. As we evolve, we will compile a Los Gatos `Ukulele Song Book. Song recommendations are always be welcome
PARKING: We have plenty. There is a Middle School about 100 yards away.

Most `Ukulele clubs are centered around a restaurant or bar. We are not. This is all about musical community and raising our collective 4-string voices. The idea here is to have FUN at all levels. If YOU are not ready to play, maybe a friend, your spouse or child is.

This sounds like a tremendous amount of fun, and a good opportunity to learn. I wish there was something like this in my area! I hope to hear updates about how this goes. |

Hey Dave!
I'd be there in a heartbeat if I did not have an important Steering Committee meeting that same night. Be sure to take some photos of everybody. I was at the first meeting of the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz more than 10 years ago, and am I glad I have pics of those early days, they hold some special memories.
