I'm currently repairing & refurbishing an early 30s frypan for Alan Akaka. It's a long scale 6 string. It needs a bunch of work, but I have part of it done.
This is the 7th frypan I've done so far. I did three for Bobby Ingano, one for Derrick Mau, and one for one of the members of the Steel Guitar Forum. The first one I did is an early 30s short scale 7 string, which is mine.
I find that the 7 string bakelite that I have is a bit easier to play, than the frypan. Possibly because the string spacing is a bit wider.
Both are great guitars though, in my opinion.

Agreed. I almost had a D7, but someone put in a $500 bump with 30 sec to go. Sigh.... probably a collector who won't play it, but hang it on wall.

I was lucky enough to grab an old long-scale Fry Pan om eBay. My friend Patti Maxine, the "Queen of Steele" found a regular scale Pan, but she says she hardly ever plays it because the metal fret board reflects those stage lights to the point where she is blinded and can't see much!

I won't have that problem, I don't often get to see those stage lights from the same angle...

Has anyone else had that problem? And what can be done about it?

So Julie, will you and the Queen be attending the Maui Steel Guitar Festival? I am looking for an excuse...

Hey Bob, I will be there, but Ms Patti Maxine had too many gigs, and cannot make it, but after a lot gnashing of teeth and wrinkling of credit cards, I decided to go anyway.
Larry my hubby wants to go with me to keep all the boys safe from my enthusiasm!
Yikes....

I am going to try to bring my Long-scale Rick Fry Pan, have to figure out how I can get it on the plane. Will you bring that Little Bass amp, Larry has an electric bass he leaves at Popoki and Dave's house. Will there be kanikaplias, do you think?

I am looking forward to an escape from my ordinary life!
