I have the usual resolutions: get into shape, be more organized, go to bed earlier. What are you musical resolutions for 2013? Here are a few of mine. - Record some tunes. I am not disciplined about recording myself. Many musicians that I look up to tell me that it is an invaluable practice exercise that gives you feedback on your playing, dynamics, timing, etc.
- Play more for my kids. I want to teach my kids some ʻukulele chords and just play music with them. Hopefully we can periodically do that rather than watch an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
- Get out when I can. I am blessed to have performed out for weddings, parties, and other cool gigs. Playing out is fun, motivates you to practice, learn new songs, get better. I hope that I have time to do that in 2013. This goal includes getting out to see great music that inspires me to pick up my guitar. It also includes getting out to jam with friends, old and new.
- Be grateful. I am lucky to be sitting here, drinking my coffee, and typing this post. Mahalo to all of you, the Taropatch.net community for sharing your thoughts and music. With all the crazy things that go on in this world, it is nice to have friends.
Happy New Year! Wish you all a great 2013.

As the second ever poster on Taropatch (after you), I hope you attain success on all your resolutions!
I do not make New Year's resolutions myself, but make them at random times (and have random success).

Excellent resolutions, Andy - I like 'em all!
OK I got one. It's not a slack key one, but it's classical guitar. During the 1987 Grammy broadcast (I have a long memory) Christopher Parkening (guitar) and Kathleen Battle (singer) performed Gounod's Ave Maria (based on Bach Prelude #1). Here is a YouTube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0o9ku8yw4U Its one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Time I learned it myself. I think it was just waiting for the Grimes.... So there you have it, Taropatchers - my goal is to learn this in time to play by next Christmas season 2013. And you all are going to hold me to it.

Christopher Parkening has been one of my classical guitar inspirations since I was in my late 20's (late 70's). Great to know that others from this site are familiar.

Mahalo to you, Andy, for taropatch.net. It's a treasure! As for New Year's Resolutions, I only made a few -- most of them, do able!
Just fulfilled one of them, by actually posting today's "Aloha Kaua`i" playlist same day as broadcast (instead of days/weeks later, as in all the year's past....sigh). One small step, but it's a start. |

My only musical resolution, (my goal actually) is just to suck less at Slack Key. Learn more of the note playing, instead of just memorizing tab stuff. UGH!!! Like that song, "moves like Jagger", I want to "Slack like Kane", (Ray Kane that is). ~slkho |
