Aloha everyone,

I have been a silent learner from this board for a few years, so I know I am asking the right people! I'm getting married in March on Hawaii (big Island) and am looking for a duo or trio for a small-scale wedding reception. I assume I am looking for acoustic only (or low decibel because of the venue's requirements).

I absolutely LOVE slack key, Gabby, IZ, Dennis Kamakahi. All the traditional Hawaiian, but I'm not crazy about the hapa-haole style stuff. Do any of you know any names on the big Island that you would recommend for about a 2 hour gig for this? Guitar-uke, guitar-guitar, guitar-bass would all be great. Location is 40 minutes N. of Kona.

Thank you for your recommendations!
Taryn

Aloha Taryn

I'd contact Taropatch member Don Kaulia. He resides on the Big Island & is a very well respected slack key guitarist. Another option would be Sonny Lim but he's traveling a lot so I don't know how available he is. Then there's also. John Keawe whose wife is a hula dancer.Best bet is to get in touch with Don Kaulia because if he can't do it because of a schedule conflict he can certainly provide very good recommendations.

Duke,

Thank you so much! You have pointed me in the perfect direction. Don Kaulia's music is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. Hopefully I'll be able arrange something with him for my reception. - It would not be complete without this beautiful music.

Mahalo again! I knew you all wouldn't disappoint :)
