Thanks again, Gregg, for the correction. Hapa World Music News got it wrong. I posted this and the Makana performances because I saw nothing about them at the usual places I look to for news of Hawaiian performers coming here. Either I am not tuning in to where performances get listed, or they are not getting listed where they should be. I suspect the latter is the case because I have repeatedly had the experience of finding out that performances by big name Hawaiian musicians were happening up here and few people knew about it. For instance, I have seen this happen with performances by Led, George Kahumoku and Keola Beamer. Likewise, I didn't know about Nathan and Amy until you mentioned it. I think these performers should be supported by some better way of getting the word out. I have felt bad for Led and George seeing them play to a partly empty house at the Upstage in Port Townsend when I think loads of people would have come if only they had known the event was happening. Do you have any suggestions? |

We're pretty good about mentioning these events on the radio, but that only reaches so many. Have you thought about joining the NWHawnCalendar on Yahoo Groups? You could post onto the calendar there; I used to do so regularly, but have been lax in doing so in the past year or so. |

Thanks, Gregg. I have posted this and Makana's concerts on NW Hawaiian Calendar as well because they were not there, either. Neither were the other performances I mentioned. It's really too bad for both the performers and the people who would like to see them. |

Would recommend that folks wanting to know where island musicians are performing/touring, to check: http://www.mele.com/resources/events.html
FYI -- the Aliso Viejo gig is SATURDAY Feb 16 (and it's Barry solo, according to the event ads).
When I started the mele.com calendar, I had to be emailing/calling artists and watching venue concert calendars, to get the info. Eventually the artists and promoters and venues and record labels were feeding the info to the site, via the event submission form we added. Joy!
Some of them are still doing it...but many are now relying on their own mailing lists and websites and Facebook pages to get tour info out to their fans...no time for mele.com? :(

...and this discussion is causing me to "up my game" and add a bunch of shows in Wakinekona to the "calendar" page of the group. |
