Recently, as we headed out from a stay in Discovery Harbor, (aka Haole-Wood?), we stopped at a hidden little store, recommended by our friends. In Ocean View, in a little business strip off up off the main road... REPLAY.... well organized--not a rats nest! Found music, in addition to clothes, books, art, cd's, a paniolo collection of music (cassette tapes!). And Linda is a talented artist, sorry, can't find last name yet--but would go back!
Another favorite on Big Island is the "Red Front" store south of Kona on 11. and of course others, a couple in Waimea and also Beverly at "Antiques and Orchids" in Capt. Cook. quite sure there's more...and haven't even started the other islands!
But kinda like the less high-end ones that aren't going for art level, just "Repurposing" and offering the chance for nice finds. so, if we hadn't been told of Replay in Ocean View, we'd have missed it.

I searched for second hand stores on the big island in 2010 and found several. Hilo has a couple big ones, and there are second hand/antique stores in Honoka'a and Honomu, Some antique stores sold miscellaneous local housewares and personal items at reasonable prices. Some treasures I found were old records, local style and Merrie Monarch t-shirts (both long and short sleeves), hats, beach mats and some cool books. Prices were reasonable and I bought a camera tripod at a store in Hilo for five bucks, then donated it back at the end of our stay. |
