Hi, Anyone around northern Virginia playing slack key?
Any regular ( or irregular!) get togethers?
If not, any want to join one at my place?

Every year during Guitar week at Swannanoa Gathering there are slack key workshops taught. There probably are people from your area that attended in years past. You might try locating people through Swannanoa or on facebook associated with Swannanoa.
Good luck and hang in there. People are around it just takes a while to connect.

Aloha, all,
Still no takers on joining up for a kanikapila here in northern Virginia...
Anyone?
Just got back from two weeks in the islands. Fantastic! Had a chance to hear Cyril Pahinui at the Kani Ka Pila Grille. And I had a two hour lesson with Cyril as well on another day.

Gary,
Sounds like a great trip full of music. Drop a line if you're ever up toward New Jersey/New York. You should seek out the Aloha Boys. http://www.alohaboys.com/ |

Aloha!
Recently, the Strathmore Institute in Bethesda Maryland ran a Uke and Slack Key Summit. Jeff Peterson provided four days of slack key lessons in G-major, taropatch, tuning. It was great!
I've been trying to find a few people who would like to get together, to kanikapila, for a couple of years now, with little results, but I found a couple at this event, so I'm hoping to find more now.
I've also joined up with the Hawai'i State Society of Washington, DC, which used to host a slack key jam session, hoping to re-start it.
Anyone else have any ideas?
