Last Sunday I set up cameras and plugged my recorder into the mixer at Kona Brewing Company to catch some video of Ledward's show. The light went fast and my settings were off (the first rule of my video projects is "something always goes wrong") but the performances were thrilling so I'm putting out a couple of clips in spite of the problems.
First one, Ledward is in taropatch G, Lei sings these songs in F, so he plays his pa`ani in the key of G then modulates without retuning and plays his backups in F!!! When I mentioned how amazing that was he said "Just having fun."
I remember hearing "Glass Ball Slack Key" when I got the wonderful "Led Live - Solo" CD - it has become an `ukulele standard since then and it's always fun to see how far Ledward will stretch the tune. Here he's playing it on his Moore Bettah `ukulele. Sorry for the poor exposure, some folks are going to go blind trying to steal Led's licks.
Fran This performance was so skillful I had to post it on my FaceBook. I try to expose my circle of musician friends to good music from Hawaii but I typically get crickets... If they let this slide by without comment they have to be unconscious.
