2014-THERE WAS NO KUPUNA FESTIVAL THIS YEAR, LIVE ALOHA ---HUGE ATTENDANCE---NEEDS HELP IF IT IS TO SURVIVE, LOKAHI HAS LOST ITS LEADER(AUNTY PUEO) , BRIDGE OF ALOHA IS FAR FROM ALMOST EVERYBODY. THESE FESTIVALS ALL NEED DOLLARS AND VOLUNTEERS!! MUSICIANS AND HALAU DONATE THEIR TIME AND RESOURCES AS DO THE "WORKER BEES"..
COMMUNITY FESTIVALS (THE ONES THAT RECOGNIZE HAWAII AS A DISTINCT CULTURE) HAVE BEEN SUPPORTIVE.
AHA MELE (HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB) SEEMS TO BE A SURVIVOR.
THE ALOHA KITCHEN IN SILVERDALE AND PAC-ISLAND GRILL STILL DO BEST THEY CAN TO PRESENT HAWAIIAN MUSIC.
SEVERAL UKE CLUBS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB OF PRESERVING HAWAIIAN SONGS, AND BANDS AND HULA TROUPES ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE FOR PRIVATE VENUES.AND THEY APPRECIATE BEING INVITED TO HAWAIIAN FESTIVALS...OFTEN PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE HOW HARD IT IS TO SELF PROMOTE AND SCHEDULE OVER A HUNDRED PERFORMANCES A YEAR WITH ONLY THEMSELVES "KEEPING THE BOOKS".
PLEASE ASK AROUND AS TO WHAT YOU MAY BE ABLE TO DO TO KOKUA, PARTICULARLY LIVE ALOHA WHICH IS A HUGE PILE OF MONEY AND WORK.
