Mahalo nui loa to Mitch for bringing so much to our Hawaiiana-phile community with the SoCal Slack Key Festival. It was once again stupendous. Thank you Maggie for coming down from Eugene! The workshop with George Kuo was really enlightening and as with other artists brought a different perspective on the path that ki ho'alu has traveled. The Meet and Greet at the new art gallery really worked. Having several areas where music could be played worked well, though personally, I was afraid I was missing something. Folks enjoyed mingling, visiting, enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the 'ohana, as evidenced by how far the event lasted into the night. By the way, I heard Danny Carvalho up close and personal for the first time and was really blown away by his sweet voice, huge range, feeling and care, and his excellent slack key. Luckily, he'll be around for a long time to come if age is any indicator.
Yesterday started with the marketplace. Thank you Bill Benzel and Jim Earp for your terrific music outside! Expectations of the show were really surpassed again, or have we come to expect this? The camera-man, sick as he was, did a breath-taking job of ====== OK, I'm not a wordsmith, nor do I know the jargon of the entertainment industry. But he had a running feed that he controlled from both sides of the stage, and then played in real time as the backdrop to the back yard kani ka pila setting. The stage and idea last year were really cool, and this year the idea was perfected. The stage worked so well in so many ways! And it's fun when Jeff's kolohe side appears. And wait until you hear Nathan with his new girlfriend - er bass - as he shreds it to pieces. Cyril and his boys started off the show setting the atmosphere and scene so well, which was drawn together at the end by George. It didn't end really until another tribute to Uncle Dennis, and then "Hawaii Aloha". And so I end this with another mahalo to Mitch and implore him to continue.

Aloha TP-er's out there in TaroPatch-land,
A big Ma-haaaaaaaaaalo nui to Mitch for putting on yet another great Slack Key Festival...not sure how you do it, but I know the Devil's going to want your soul by the 10th one!! haha I don't think Mainlanders realize what a treasure it is to see so many artists in one location, outside of Hawaii, which I think makes this even more of a great show...I for one, love it. Cyril,George, Jeff, Kimo, Makana, Ken, Danny Carvalho, Peter, Jeff, Nathan, Napua, and Tom Atwater, all were great. I absolutely loved Napua Greig's singing...wow! what a voice. Oh yeah, there was also some Korean/Flamenco/Slack Key/Heavy Metal/Amish Rap guy who wasn't too shabby either. hahaha
I can't wait for next year, and will purchase my tickets long in advance for 2016. Oh forgot to mention, the Meet 'n Greet was awesome too, our own Bill Benzel was part of a trio of players, (sorry, I only remember Ken's name, not that other guy with the cool mustache)entertaining us all, along with players mentioned above....So much Aloha! Keep up the good work Mitch!
