I just saw this and wanted it. But I ordered a "'new" Cd, from Amazon, thinking it was an original CD, NOT the digitally remanufactured (on demand) stuff.
Hmmm. at checkout, it looked like it still might be the latter.
Anyway, Kinda like that it has 6 of the pieces we've run into in tab over the years, from workshops, Ozzie and such.

Next time, is there a better way? I rather have a new or good used CD, and am skeptical of many CD-R formats...they can skip, or worse, they "just won't play, just won't play, just won't play"! A little reference to the John Hartford song about, "Don't leave your records in the sun, or they....Just won't play...."

and when the one ordered online arrives, I will return if not of Dancing Cat quality...and then go through their website.
Not sure why I didn't do it to start!
Isn't this "manufactured on demand" a violation of copyright? Sure are a lot of characters doing it!

CD here, Does anyone have this cd in a better layout...

This one was wrapped for a NASA space trip...and sounds good enough.

HOWEVER, sleeve has no infol--Sony website listed on middle of insert, but no information other than list of songs on outside of Jacket songs and "Endlessly" and Sonny Chillingworth

QUESTION: in car, it doesn't say anything but,
"Track 1, Track 2 etc....song name doesn't appear.

NO Significant liner notes--no tuning info and other normal artist and music info and history...just a List of songs/times on minimal jacket insert.

CD says "2012 Sony Music Entertainment", then "1999 Dancing Cat Records".

We did get spoiled by George Winston's meticulous notes, I'm glad these recordings are made and kept available...But I miss the care that George and his original people at Dancing Cat took and shared!
Was there a release of this in 1999 by the real Dancing Cat, or was this just stuff in the vault that Sony has thrown out there? In other words, should I look for a REAL, older Dancing Cat original, return this and re-order?!

.

Hi Gordon...

Yes, there were extensive liner notes, with 24 panel booklet, etc.

I have an original copy of this release, golden colored ocean waves receding into the distance on the front cover.

Maybe you can order a used one just to get the artwork & notes, and if the used disc is good, then return the one you just got? Or maybe you can find the artwork-notes online somewhere (I searched online and found copies of some 197x Japanese Jazz album covers and notes, so these might be out there somewhere too.)

24 panels! Thanks Lawrence. Have to look for one of the "real" ones when time allows, for now I'll play this one.
And we'll have to catch up soon. Not getting out there as much we'd like. But still have familly, dear frineds, and coastal food and sights to see! Ya'll are on our Groundhogs wishlist. Maybe come to Alameda for some slack/chow by spring?! Hugs to Cynthia and our favorite camp counselor/soundman.

And while we're talking quality control...
The cd song list on the back cover and cd list:
track #10: "Moana Chimes/Pacahana" PACAHANA?
I've never heard of Pacahana...
I have heard of Pa'ahana...
I'd be surprised if a real Dancing Cat would make such an error.
If you're going to counterfeit, at least you should know the names of the Presidents!
Happy Ground Hogs day, Pacahana Phil!

The original liner notes for Endlessly are here:

http://www.dancingcat.com/artists/sonny_chillingworth/liner_notes_01_ENDLESSLY.pdf

The Dancing Cat site has been redesigned since I last looked at it, but the archive of all the liner notes for all the DC releases (and for the extremely important and useful Hana Ola reissues George W. produced or organized notes for) by are still there, starting on this page:

http://www.dancingcat.com/recordings_01.html

These are extremely valuable documents, not only of the particular artists and tunes recorded but the history of slack key in general.

Yes, MAHALO NUI for liner notes, especially the Endlessly link. While a little miffed at myself for buying from an Amazon provider who can't spell/info check his product, but I am listening alot while commuting, and don't want to wait for a "real" copy, so it stays and plays. No bluetooth in older runabout, and don't like to wrestle with ipod.
Old fashioned. If I could find it on an Edison cylinder, well that'd be preferred!
But seriously,
The standards here are a must-have for players, wannabees and avid listeners.

Also, went to the Tunings area of George Winston's site, a doctoral level of research, and published for all.
I remember when I first started, I would go crazy, and be thoroughly flumoxed trying to break down a song.

Now I'm only Stupified. But at least it's not from "that tuning which shall not be named!"
And now, for some slack-key in Valdemort tuning. Avert your eyes.
