April 28, 2014. The day that Dennis Kamakahi died was a sad day for all lovers of Hawaiian music.

Thanks for posting that Norman.
Good choice of song.
I will miss his presence until the end of mine.

I miss him, too.
What was cool is that throughout the East Coast Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Fest last weekend, just about every performer mentioned Uncle Dennis and/or performed one of his songs.
I spotted this downstairs in the dressing room area at Wolf Trap.
I posted this photo to FB. Can you see it if you don't use FB?

Yes, that was wild. To be at that venue, on that stage, on that bill was totally insane. |

I just listened to "So Far Away". Love the clarity of his playing, his voice, how you can almost see his right hand articulations (which are simple but beautiful), his harmonica solo --also so fine and clear...almost like an early Beatles Ballad with Harmonica. and in the background, The Beatles poster. Uncle Dennis, We love you do, I mean always...Yea, yea, yea. Always in our hearts, always in our songs. |
