My new Kala uke arrived on Saturday morning and it's a thing of beauty, both in looks and sound.
I also became one of the founding members of a new ukulele group in town on Monday night, which has a mix of a few more experienced players and a few complete novices.
So, I'm looking for suggestions for about half a dozen good Hawaiian songs to slowly introduce to the group. I do have a copy of He Mele Aloha, so if the songs are in there, that would make things a lot easier.
(My preference is leaning towards songs that I can also learn in slack key once I figure things out a bit more. So, My Yellow Ginger Lei in C could well be a good starting point.)
Does anyone have any suggestions for a good starting repertoire for uke?
One of my favorites is Wahine Ilikea, followed closely by Keana'e. Then there are hapa haole tunes like Tiny Bubbles, Hanalei Moon and similar. There are so many good ones in the He Mele book.
