I first heard of this late night treat from Kevin Brown. It seems that a local bakery in Kaunakakai opened up late at night and sold bread warm from the oven out the back door. I finally got to sample this treat on a trip to visit Norm De Costa, and it was a delight. But probably not enough of a delight to make the trek to Molokai and stay up until late evening hours (grin).

However it appears that Molokai Hot Bread is now available across the state, from food trucks, pop ups, or open markets:

Now we really have a good reason to visit Hawai`i!!

Can confirm Fran.
Without naming names, Liko Pua, Kevin, Jill and myself may have done a zero dark thirty 'bread run' during the 2005 camp on Molokai.

I remember parking the car in an 'alley' and Liko approaching on foot to the roll up window of the bakery. He advised us to stay in the car.

Deals may have been made, securities may have been exchanged, or so I'm told.

Anyway, we left in haste with many green plastic bags of still steamy goodness.
Drove all the way back to Kaupoa. We shared with several creatures of the night including the camp security guard!

My rental car was a well used Ford Taurus that was close to its maximum certificated payload capacity for the trip. Jill drove, there and back.
Turns and curves in the road had to be negotiated in advance while at highway speeds of 37 mph...

We all went to bed as the sun was coming up. Toki made us!

Good times...
