This piece by Ozzie Kotani seems to be one of the most protected. Is direct instruction from Ozzie or Duke the only way to learn it?

And if that is the case, does anyone know if they're even offering lessons right now?

Duke gives you the tuning and you can watch him. That's about it. The fingerings, positions, etc, are all there. First you start, then continue, eventually finish.

Vlog. I've found that you should really listen and have the melody down pat before you attempt it and then watch the chord shapes he uses. Good luck

Actually, I was in Oahu for USN work a few years ago and had the fortune to connect with Ozzie for slack key lessons at his home near Honolulu. He had a real day job then outside of performing. He asked me to play something for him and the hubris in me (took over) and I played one of his songs. He was the most gracious teacher, complimented me, then went right to work to help me put more "soul and heart" into the music without getting overly technical. You should try and contact him directly. He is a perfect gentleman and easy to learn from.

I actually played in a few picnic kanikapila with "Duke" (many moons ago) and he had lots of "hands-on" help for me. I just wish I remebered it all. He has some great YouTube videos that can be easy to follow if you have the tablature for it. I think Ozzie can sell you a copy of the tablature if you contact him.
