I just finished the small paperback "All About Hawaiian" by Albert Schutz. Although it's not a music book, it might be of help to Hawaiian music players because it gives you a taste of the language with tips about grammar, pronunciation and sentence construction. It's only about 50 pages and can be read quickly in one sitting. The book is aimed at Hawaiian visitors (tourists), but is a way to get started in basic language study. The book also gives some history of the language and explains how to decipher place names to get a look at the thought behind each one. At around $6, it's a good investment and Amazon offers some combo discounts when purchased with a Hawaiian dictionary. For a musician interested in basic understanding of the Hawaiian language, this small book and a pocket dictionary would be a place to start. Jesse Tinsley
