See you there...I'll come back from Hawai'i just to join you all. In the meantime, I'm still lovin' the local music scene!

Looks like we'll be there this time - everything else has conveniently fallen off the schedule. |

Alas, I'll be in Puyallup, squeezing out tunes with Hans. Plink a tune for me. |

Neeej, you rock. Thanks for hosting another great session for us. We were few in number, but mighty in fun tonight. I always learn new stuff from these kanikapila (Cookie, thanks for reminding me that I really do know Ka `Opae. Kimo, thanks for reminding me that I need to learn more Nathan Aweau. Likeke, that `ukulele is gorgeous.) For those interested, see Keaka and his new-to-him frypan in the Steel Guitar section. Noeau, we missed you and M. Thumbstruck, you missed somen salad. Hili, where in the world are you? |

Thanks Momi for the mention. I was making pork adobo for our friends from Hawai'i. They leave tomorrow after we take them to IKEA so they can check out more souvenirs before they head back to aloha land. One of our friends visited this country for the first time. So it was fun to go to SAM and the Market. I cooked like a fool this past 3 days. Steak one night salmon the next and then the pork adobo. Maybe next jam will be attended by yours truly. |

Mahalo again Jean for hosting. Always a treat to have Gregg and Lori join us regulars. Thank you Momi (Lori) for blessing my uke with your sweet playing! I look forward to jamming with you all at the next kanikapila. |

I just got back to Kona last week from 10 days in Port Townsend and Seattle. I would have loved to join you guys at your kanikapila, and will make it a priority on my next trip. (My daughter lives in Seattle, and I am making her one of my slack key basses). Thanks again to Retro for putting me in touch with Mark E and Andy. They did a great job playing, and I my parents finally got a taste of what slack key is all about.
Just in case some of you have the chance to come to the Big Island, please email me through Taropatch. We kani here too! And... if you are inclinded to head to Hawaii in early December, consider Keoki Kahumoku's camp in Pahala. Pahala is really the last of the old plantation towns left in Hawaii. The baby boomers have not discovered it yet, and it has a very unique atmosphere here in Hawaii. Probably not for many more years... but experience it while you can. Send the spouse and kids to the beach or Volcanos National Park, and spend some quality time with John Keawe, George Kahumoku, Dennis Kamakahi, Sonny Lim, Brittni, and Jeff Peterson.

Someone brought one of Konabob's Walkingbasses to the kani quite a while ago - we all enjoyed getting to test it out.
Susie Kagami was here a month ago - she raved about the camp in Pahala - it sounds magical. |

Special session on Saturday, August 18th??
How many of you are interested in a trip down towards Tacoma on 8/18 to have a very public kanikapila session at L&L Hawaiian BBQ (in Lakewood actually)?
We could play at the restaurant from 5 to 7:30 or so, then head to my place (about 10 minutes away) to finish off the day with a sunset serenade on my deck.
Let me know if you're interested (or not) so I can make arrangements with the restaurant. We can also discuss this further at Jean's on the 11th.
