BTW Dr. Cookie, I wore the shirt you gave me (not of your back) to the Kona Kitchen and got compliments (for the shirt not my playing). Shouldn't be telling you this, you probably want to get it back!

OK...it's now all set up (as of a few minutes ago) and flyers go up tomorrow:

Lei Mele will host a kanikapila session at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Tacoma/Lakewood on Saturday, August 18th (5 to 7:30 pm).

This L&L location is in the Lakewood Town Centre complex (near Safeway) at 10417 Gravelly Lake Drive, #E, Lakewood, WA 98499;
Phone: (253) 588-8296).

The plan is to pack up and move to my place for sunset music...more jamming + hulihuli chicken (direct from Hawai'i no less) and genuine homemade mac salad courtey of Joy (lovely wife) and Mitzi (sweet mother-in-law).

Confirmed so far are Jean, Rich, Kimo and myself + maybe Kory (we hope) . . . if others can make it, please let me know!

Should we come up with a playlist for the event?

You mean instead of just flailing, Rich?

Sure . . . it's probably a good idea. I'll take the one you sent me via email, add a coulple of other "sure things" and zip it back to you.

Mahalo Jean, Rich, Kimo & Derek, for making the trek to my end of the world to play at L&L. That was good fun, don't ya' think? It was great to have the support of Uncles Zeke, Mel & Jay, plus Kila's great hula and uke playing! I think we even got my good friend Robyn hooked, so we may just see her with her uke again. And . . . now some friends and neighbors finally understand why I'm so willing to drive to Seattle/Bellevue to jam with you guys!

Don, it was fun playing with the Lei Mele gang and for an appreciative audience. Thanks for the little party at your cookie store. You have an amazing operation. I'm trying to think of a cookie you haven't made!

And now some evidence of our session at L&L:

L to R: Derek, Robyn, Don (Doc/Cookie), Jim (Kimo), Rich (Likeke), Jean's elbow (neeej--she's so shy, behind Kila (dancing) & Uncle Jay.

PS -- Just think about this: People actually ate food (whole dinners) while we played . . . and I'm not aware that anyone lost it . . .

And...more photos from last night at L&L in Lakewood:

1) Lei Mele playing as a quartet (before Derek arrived). L to R: Jean's back (neej), Jim's back (Kimo), Rich's profile (Likeke) & Don (Dr. Cookie). Note the consistently distinguished-looking hair-color.

2) Da Uncles & Kali. L to R: Uncle Zeke, Uncle Mel, Uncle Jay & Kila (who later danced for us). These guys played wonderful traditional slack key for all to enjoy.

Tanks a lot for telling me about it and I'm sorry I missed it, Dr Cookie. I was at Lee's near Capitol Mall in Olympia eating Chinese food at a birthday party for a friend but my mind was at L&L in Lakewood! You say that this may become a regular thing?

Aloha,
John A.

Aloha e John! The owner just told me she'd like to do a monthly kanikapila . . . I'll work with her on this and hope we can pick a regular date that will work with at least a core group that can commit to being there. Stay tuned!
