Man! Keoki sure does a great camp! Being around all those young persons, really opened up something in me. I never realized how gratifying it was to work with students. They are a real challange, and a real treat. I am so looking forward to the next Hawaiian Music Camp in November. The house is a real slice of Old Hawaii, too. Pahala is unlike any other town on the Big Island... The next camp is in December. I have a few details posted at: http://www.konaweb.com/keoki/

Konabob:
I'll have to figure out posting photos, but want to say how much fun camp was! The music, classes, company, evening concerts and events -- all pure joy. We had more fun than we are able to process -- having just arrived home on "the continent" -- but feel certain the experience will grow richer with time. Things were exceptionally well-run and the people could not have shown more aloha. About 50% return campers and 50% newcomers, all of whom felt embraced and welcomed to the family. Great attendance at all levels for classes by Keola, Kevin and John, as well as a very strong ukulele contingent for classes by Byron, Kaliko and Mark.
Auntie Nona was the embodiment of love and light and was ever the lovely blossom that had all of us buzzing around her spirit.
I'll leave it to Mark to provide the full debriefing, as only he can -- just wanted to say thnaks to him and the Beamer Ohana for such a delightful experience.
Also, aloha and mahalo nui to all the new friends we made during this magical week.
Peace & Love from Idaho,
Dave & Tami

Agreed - very well said Davey.
This was my first camp... and although I am not an instrument player, so I cannot comment on those classes, I did build a cigar box 'ukulele. Now to learn to play it! That particular class was size-limited - only 10 participants. Here's the 'chicken skin' part about that class. Each 'ukulele was in pieces in a plastic tub. One could not see inside. Choice of box was purely at random. There were 5 "king" boxes and 5 'queen' boxes... 5 male and 5 female participants in the class. Yep... the women all ended up with 'queen' cigar boxes and the men (2 of whom were 12 years old) got the 'king' boxes. What are the odds?
The hula classes had great attendance as well, and such beautiful hulas !

Just came back from Hawai'i very early this AM to buckets full of laundry and bills etc. Thank God all my cats are alive and well, and most of my plants have survived the attentions of other women who came and went and fed and watered and petted and brushed...

When I catch my breath I would like to report on both camps. This is the first time that camps occurred one right after the other. It was a phenonemal time, maybe even a little too much all at once, but we managed to get through.

The most difficult thing, though, was to go from "old-time" Hawai'i on Molokai to "tourist" Ka'anapali in one day. It was a huge shock. We had to turn off the raving air-conditioner in our hotel room and open up the doors and louvers just to get a breath. It was so cold in the room (66 degrees) that I couldn't stand it. And what was that big black box that showed people talking and made all those mechanical noises?

Cultural shock.

Aloha, Julie

Interesting, because based on the AMC website, the only camp that can be signed up for is Winter.

Hi All! Many thanks to everyone for making it such a wonderful camp this year. So many nice people (and such good food)! If you were at Aloha Camp in June, there was a preregistration form for both the winter and summer camps in your packet, as usual.
