It varies from da norm but sound good and can communicate ideas wit less words and movement. like potry jest make pitchas wit words. |

E wa da fa? You're the one who asked about meeting up with people to play Hawaiian music, right after you moved here - what did you think would happen when we met somebody who plays good like you, that we wouldn't drag you to every performance opportunity we'd get? |

Sorry...no pidgin. I been one mainland haole way too long! You guys are making me remember good things from my childhood. I remember Capatain Honolulu for sure! I used to watch all the time. Aku-head Pupule too. I remember Lord Blears and surfed with his kids for a while! I was in a club called Surf Club Hawaii, based in Waikiki--pretty sure he helped run it. Why Waikiki? Hey, for sure because it was summer time but why there? I dont know. I was from the North shore side (Haleiwa) so it must have been my mother that signed me up :). My picture got in a book called "Surf and Sea" and was in the public library. Me, age 11, hanging five at Queens (Waikiki) competing with a big #21 on my vest. Ho boy! |

Hooooo bra. Some memreez. I remembah I waz da remote. Owa house had one hugemungus Zenith TV, but da screen waz kina small an roun. Any wayz, I was da remote. Way back, wen oni had chree channels, owa house Moloka`i had six channels, bra! We had chree from Honolulu and chree from Maui. I waz da remote, my faddah says, "Boy, change da channo." And I gotta jump up and turn da knob. An was on Channo 4, but my faddah said, "Not 2...9!" And I jump up and turn da knob da udda way. An if 9...da Honolulu one no was too cleeah, he said, "Try da Maui nine (which means chree)." If 2 no was cleah he said, "Try da Maui 2 (which was 7)." Hoooo, brah. Dis remote was runnin out of batrees.
I neval like be one remote so I wen go outsai and ride my goose-neck. Hoo brah, you get some bus up wen you crash going down one cinda hill on one up-sai-down frame, pipe neck goose neck bike wit da small tiyah in da front. Mo worse wen you lovin' oldah brudda hemo da coasta brake. Wen you try fo slow um down goin down da cinda hill and you step da pedal backwards...Eiiiiya! No stop...da pedal oni keep going backwards.
An wen you reach home all bus up an den Ma go put iodine all on top da cinda-rash...AFTAH she scrub um dith da washclot an Ivory soap! Owee! |
