Mahalo plenny to Bill an Gloria for all da hard work! Great time on Friday at da kanikapila. Saturday was ony good fun. Aunty Manu guys sounded great, IMHO (vocals by Aunty Manu ukulele, Gary-aka-Falsetto2002 ukulele and Rory Lono 12-string--chicken skin harmonies!, Rory's son on bass,Slipry1 on steel, Retro on ukulele, me - ki ho'alu). Kudos to da sound guys. Slipry1 an I had good fun with Retro. I think I was able to walk off that key lime pie. Johnny Pineapple provided ono shave ice (I had 3!). |

Thumbstruck says it well. I sweated off my piece of pie - especially playing bass with Naki`i. I've known this husband-and-wife band for years, but never played with them before. We had an extended set on Saturday (due to a schedule slip) and a short set on Sunday - I only knew about 1/3 of their material, but we clicked quickly.
Far too little time playing with thumbstruck & slipry1 - we really do sound nice together! Good time with Keahi Conjugacion & Bruce (ex-Maunalua) Spencer, both of whom plan to be out Seattle way more often. Got to chat a lot with John Koko (didn't see Wanda's message in time, though). I was tied to the stage too much to get more than 1 shave ice, dang it, and Momi wasn't there to help bring me more.
Some folks from our SUPA `ukulele ensemble came down on Sunday, and we got them onstage at the end for a brief kanikapila, along with Naki`i and 3/4 of Na Mele O Hawai`i (Aunty Bobbie is retiring from music for health reasons, so the other three are now known as Fair Winds); humorist Kamaka Brown also came up from CA to surprise us.
Today is my recovery day. |
