You can find this track and a couple more Slack Key selections by George Keoki Davis on "Vintage Hawaiian Treasures Vol 7: the History of Slack Key Guitar" put out by Cord International, with great liner notes. All from Bell Records 78's circa 1950. |

Eh Wanda, here's a video a friend of mine shared with me. A bunch of youngsters from Maui doing Weldon Kekauoha's version of "Queen's Jubilee" Good music, good hula. Gives one hope that the younger generation will perpetuate the music & culture.

This one is pretty hilarious. Group from Hawai'i not playing a hawaiian song but I got a kick out of the announcer stumbling thru the hawaiian names and words. He made a valiant effort. Also listen to the slip up of the lady announcer at the end to see if you catch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FexFQgEESeA

Uhh, as fah as I recomembah da bass was called pākini bass. Since pākini is the word for wash basin or wash tub. So the man was corrected to say the wrong thing any way. Pakanini was pidgin for someting small or tiny. Oh and the guy is one TV actor I seen him in a few shows on the boob tube. Anyway it was fun to listen to. |

Isn't that lady announcer Bo Derek? . . . not that I was thinking about anything else besides Hawaiian music. |

Wow, that movie was 30 years ago?!!! Probably before Andy was born . That was so long ago that Bruddah Duke still had hair . Nothing like those classic movies from the '70s. And may I add, what a fine actress she was/is. |

Fine actress? In a pig's eye, fine actress. She wasn't even that cute, but is that Mokoli`i in the background? I find Mokoli`i much more appealing to the eye.
Stop fantasizing all you dirty old buggahs. When she whipped them braids around, she wen knock her brains out with them beads. |

You know, I wasn't even paying attention to who the announcers were but more on the music and listening to them fumble. Funny when you bring attention to something you realize things you missed. I was around back then but just a wee chap. By the way, I thought those braids were fugly.
