I've been asked to host a slack key workshop at the 2009 San Francisco Aloha Festival. As usual, I'll be warming up the crowd for Hiram Bell <grin>. The workshop will start at 11:00 AM both days in the activity tent.

In the past almost everyone in the audience has come with an `ukulele, because they're really just reserving a seat for Hiram's `ukulele workshop, so please, could someone bring a guitar this year??

This subject of this year's class will be slack key in 3/4 time, or waltzing in taropatch.

Hope to see you (and your guitar) there.

Fran

Fran, glad to see you and Hiram are back doing the workshops. Last time you packed them in pretty good.

Separately, as in past years, is anyone interesting in coming down early on Sunday, Aug. 2, to kanikapila in the workshop tent before Fran and Hiram's workshops and the scheduled performances? I'm planning to get there around 8:30A. The first performance is scheduled for 10:30A: http://www.pica-org.org/AlohaFest/entertainment_schedule_2009.htm . There are a number of Taropatchers, as well as the Temple Bar gang (Royal Hawaiian 'Ukulele Band), performing on Sunday, so hopefully we can round up a bunch of folks.

The benefits of coming early are: (a) You get choice parking, (b) You can kapu a spot close to the stage, (c) You can shop before the big crowd hits, (d) You can eat a Loco Moco for breakfast , and (e) You can start your day right with a kanikapila!

By the way, last year after Hiram's workshop, we had a good fun impromptu kanikapila with Hiram. Therefore, keep your instruments handy during the day .

Aloha,
Doug

Fran,
I'll set up my equipment early so you can use it if you like. I'll have a mic, mixer and 2 speakers. See you then...

Stay Tuned...
